The fiction illustrations often represent inferred information and alone could be difficult for ESL students to gain meaning from. The photographs and charts in the non-fiction pieces offer much more universal representations and explanations making them very useful to ESL students. The book is written at a 5th grade level of language development and vocabulary. However several support pieces are available from the publisher to help ESL students at all levels of acquisition gain access to the topics and literature.
